The review could result in minor or major changes, outcomes we won’t know until later this year.

While cutting or trimming back services could be a smart financial move for the health care group, it might not provide the outcome people want.

Today’s front page story is a result of the Mail-Times asking questions of Wimmera Health Care Group about the future of Kurrajong Lodge after several people called our office with concerns.

There is no doubt the community cares about the future of the aged care hostel, and all health services it provides.

All services, businesses and governments need to be acutely aware of their fi nancial situation in what is tough economic times.

Fairfax’s announcement on Monday to slash 1900 jobs is further evidence of the economy we face.

However when it comes to health care, there is no service that is of greater importance.

And with the Wimmera’s ageing population, health care is even more crucial for our community.

Let’s hope Wimmera Health Care Group keeps on the front foot and keeps its pledge for regular consultation, especially with residents, staff and the affected community.
