A HORSHAM drug-driver involved in a high speed two-car collision faces a suspended jail term when he reappears in court.

Lee Kirchner, 27, indicated to Horsham Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday he would plead guilty to possession of methamphetamines, possession of cannabis, having used methamphetamines, having failed an oral fluid test and reckless conduct.

Magistrate Richard Pithouse adjourned Kirchner’s matters to August 1.

Mr Pithouse heard a police summary of the allegations against Kirchner and said he faced a six-month jail term suspended for two years, a $3500 fine and his licence being cancelled and disqualified for two years.

He said the car crash, which occurred on Blue Ribbon Road, was in a ‘recognised speeding area’.

“I have been there; it is a nice flat road, big wide and open,” Mr Pithouse said.

“Mr Kirchner had a big Ford under him and was full of amphetamines.

“It is one of the best places to go and speed.”

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Matthew Haughton told the court about the allegations against Kirchner.

A police officer saw Kirchner driving his Ford GT sedan from Warracknabeal to Horsham on Kalkee Road on March 10 at 11.10am.

The officer estimated Kirchner’s speed was 160 to 170 kilometres an hour in a 100kmh zone.

Kirchner was later driving south on Blue Ribbon Road, Kalkee, at 11.30am.

Police estimated his speed at 130 to 140 kilometres an hour.

The front of Kirchner’s car hit the rear of a vehicle in front of him, which was set on cruise control at 105kmh.

Kirchner’s car did a 360-degree spin and both vehicles left the road.

Sen Const Haughton said Kirchner put the driver of the other car ‘in danger of death’.

The damage to both cars was significant enough to require towing.

Kirchner returned a positive oral fluid test for methamphetamines in Horsham Police Station.

A further analysis detected methamphetamines and psychedelic drug MDA.

Police officers found drug paraphernalia, white powder and a rock-type substance in Kirchner’s underwear.

Members later found green vegetable matter in Kirchner’s house.
