A DIMBOOLA teenage passenger was hospitalised after a car crashed into a tree on Saturday.

The unlicensed driver of the car, a girl, 16, of Dimboola, lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of the Borung Highway and Old Katyil Road about 7.30pm.

The car hit a tree head-on and the rear female passenger, 17, sustained non-life-threatening fractures to her vertebrae.

Paramedics transported the injured passenger to Wimmera Base Hospital, Horsham, and she was later flown to Melbourne for treatment.

A man, 19, in the front passenger seat was uninjured.
