The annual event is an open age competition and is named after the co-founder of the Short Statured People of Australia organisation.

This will be the 17th time the two states have contested the trophy, with the head-to-head record tied at eight-apiece.

Victoria has won the past two matches.

“It should be all right,” Emmett said.

“I like the competitiveness of basketball.”

Emmett, a year eight student at Horsham College, is 105 centimetres tall.

He plays in Horsham Amateur Basketball Association’s domestic competition every Monday.

He trained with the team twice in Melbourne before been named in the final squad.

“I was pretty stoked when I found out I was in,” Emmett said.

Emmett’s father Robert Emmett said he was proud of his son.

“He is having a go, that is the main thing,” he said.

Mr Emmett thanked Horsham Sports and Community Club for their sponsorship.
