A Gold Coast man was hospitalised yesterday after being hit in the face with a police Taser gun.

The 29-year-old man was Tasered after allegedly acting aggressively towards police as they tried to speak to him at Tarcoola Crescent on Chevron Island about 4.30pm.

One of the Taser barbs lodged in the man’s face, just below his eye.

“Officers attempted to speak to the man on Thomas Drive when he ran off,” a police spokesman said.

“Officers followed the man to Tarcoola Crescent where he allegedly acted aggressively and ran at an officer. A Taser was deployed in apprehending the man.’’

The man was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for assessment.

The police service’s internal Ethical Standards Command is investigating.
