“It’s almost like doing preseason again.”

Maitland Magpies captain Matt Stonham has summed up the mood of his team mates after their frustrating run of wash outs continued last week with another abandoned fixture against Toronto-Awaba.

This means Maitland have gone full circle in the competition draw and will travel to Lyall Peacock Field on Sunday to take on the Stags without having re-played their washed out game from round 14.

And Stonham has noticed the irritation from his players at training.

“It’s just the little things, you can’t get out there and play which is disappointing but there’s not much you can do about it,” Stonham said.

“If we get washed out again this Sunday we’re looking at having to play six games in three weeks before the finals which is tough.

“At the moment we train and train, then have our weekend off with no game, then train and train – it’s like going through preseason again.”

Maitland also have a deferred home clash with Belmont Swansea to make up before they begin their tilt for the 1st division grand final.

Elsewhere in the 1st division this weekend, Thornton travel to Howe Park to take on Singleton hoping to pick up their first victory of the season.

A win would give the Redbacks an outside chance of catching Singleton, while a loss would almost certainly condemn them to the wooden spoon.
